Assessment of the Environmental Performance of a Jet Engine Due to Irreversibility under Altitude Conditions
Özet
The aviation sector carries out important studies with the awareness of its sectoral responsibility in terms of ensuring its economic sustainability as well as reducing emissions resulting from global climate change. Studies on energy efficiency and especially reducing the irreversibility of engine technologies are handled in a versatile structure and studies are progressing in this direction. In this study, with reference to a turbojet engine, the irreversibility caused by the engine in irreversible conditions and the environmental effects caused by this irreversibility were examined in terms of fuel consumption. Depending on the altitude conditions, thermodynamic analyses have been made and the irreversibility potential has been calculated. The irreversibility potential of the reference engine was found to be 74.32%. In addition, exergy destruction caused by irreversibility was investigated by evaluating the efficiency potential with the change of thrust. At the end of the study, some suggestions were made for system evaluations based on fuel flow rate.
